Access and inclusive design consultancy

Inclusive design

Expert knowledge of the access standards, regulations and guidance coupled with Rachael Marshall’s architectural education and experience will help your design team to achieve the best possible level of inclusive design for your projects.

Established in 2013, Withernay Projects works with architects and developers to develop inclusive design strategies and support planning, listed building and building control applications.

Projects include Oriel Myrddin Gallery and Young V&A with De Matos Ryan, Strand Aldwych with LDA Design and Westminster Coroner’s Court with Lynch Architects.

I firmly believe that good architecture has to be inclusive. The combination of architectural education (to Professional Diploma level, RIBA Part II) and more than twenty years' experience of access consultancy results in a balanced and pragmatic approach to working with design teams.

Creating a development that supports its occupants is only part of the recipe for inclusion: the people responsible for operating a building in use have responsibilities laid down in law by the Equality Act. A good access strategy includes guidance for the ongoing maintenance and management of the access provisions designed into it, which often includes staff training and awareness.
